Headlines for the stupid
|
|
OK - Rex and I said that we wouldn't get into politics following the abortive 2004 election and the reselection of George W. Bush, but this is just beyond tolerance and something must be said about it. This has to be the most stupid headline ever printed:
From the BBC: Bush defends US policies in Iraq
Explain to Rex and me how the hell that is news? What do you think the man is going to say? "We really fucked up over there." Yeah, right. Rex and I live for the day that that man will ever admit to a mistake. It's just never going to happen. Even when he's impeached. Even when he's removed from office. Even when they're marching him handcuffed into Danbury Prison he'll still proclaim that he was right and that Iraq was justified.
To the reporters and editors of BBC News (whom Rex has utmost respect for and gets all his news from there) Rex says "Report the real news, not this crap." Seriously, a headline that says "Bush defends US policies in Iraq" is about as meaningful and exciting a headline as one that reads "The sun came up this morning!" |
